What you need to know regarding the assessment 

EPELTS Reading assessment measures a wide range of reading skills. While the question formats remain consistent, the text styles vary for General English, Professional English and English for Specific Purpose.

SKIM

Focus on the main ideas by considering the title, headings and topic sentences of the reading passages.  

Pay attention to typographical cues such as headings, boldface and italic type, indenting and bulleted or numbered lists.

This approach helps the main ideas of entire readings, sections or paragraphs become clear.

SCAN

Efficiently search for and match similar information, while understanding how ideas are connected. Scanning involves using keywords and organisational cues to locate specific facts within the material

CONNECT

Developing an overall understanding of a passage is crucial. 

Making connections while reading aids comprehension and enables candidates to derive meaning from the text. 

Connecting with the material helps retain information better and fosters a deeper engagement with the text.
